Challenge Bahrain ended with a bang… more like a few bangs as fireworks lit up the sky and strobe lights sliced through the air in preparation for The Straits performance at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.

Athletes and spectators celebrated in rock-fashion as the cover band, made up of two former members of the legendary Dire Straits, belted out one hit after the other.

The group features saxophonist Chris White, who toured with the chart-topping band, as well as keyboard player Alan Clark, accompanied by Terence Reis, Steve Ferrone, Mickey Feat, Adam Philips and Jamie Squire.

When they hit the stage, the crowd screamed in delight, throwing their hands up in the air as the band began to play the classic Money for Nothing.

The stage lights changed colour with every song adding to the electrifying ambiance from a shade of red during another crowd favourite Walk of Life to a subdued blue with Romeo and Juliet.

The group didn’t miss a beat, leaving the audience in a trance. And, while it may not have been the biggest crowd at a BIC concert, they were full of life, swaying to the sounds and cheering on for more.

After The Straits warmed up the audience, Lebanese Canadian rhythm and blues, pop singer Massari entertained the audience. The event then ended on a high note with American hip hop recording artist Akon who had captivated motor racing fans during the 2008 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix post-race concert.
