The Chuckle Club Comedy Night is bringing another three shows to the kingdom this month, featuring comedians Sean Donnelly, Brendon Burns and Martin Mor. The first will be at the Rugby Club, Janabiya, on January 14, with a show at the British Club, Um Al Hassam, on January 15 and finally at the InterContinental Regency Bahrain, Manama, on January 16.

Doors open at 7.30pm for the first two shows with tickets priced at BD15, and 3pm for the third show with tickets at BD30++ inclusive of brunch. For further details, call 17750777.

A ‘Berber Women of Morocco’ exhibition will be held at the Bahrain National Museum, Manama, from January 15 to April 15, as part of the 2015 ‘Year of Heritage’ festivities. It will be open from 8am-8pm.

The exhibition will showcase a wide range of objects and photographs in tribute to the women who preserve the Berber culture’s identity.

La Fontaine Centre for Contemporary Art, Adliya, will screen the movie Omar on January 18 at 7pm. The film is a 2013 Palestinian drama directed by Hany Abu-Assad and is being shown to coincide with the release of a book titled Fast Times in Palestine by Pamela Olson. Dr Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat will be performed over three days at the Bahrain Cultural Hall, Manama. Shows will take place at 8.45am and 10.30am from January 20-22, with an additional 4.30pm slot on January 22.

The Autumn Fair 2015, Bahrain’s biggest annual consumer products exhibition, will be held from January 21-29 at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre in Sanabis.

Now in its 26th year, the Autumn Fair is the most widely attended exhibition in Bahrain with over 750 exhibitors from 21 countries that will showcase their products from across the globe. A variety of goods will go on sale ranging from specialty food, fashion and furniture to technology, toys and textiles. An outdoor children’s play area, a live band and costume characters also form part of the entertainment.

Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) is hosting an international short film festival titled ‘Film Café’ in Segaiya on January 23. Interested candidates can download entry forms from www.bksbahrain.com and entries must be no longer than three minutes and are subject to the laws of Bahrain. Selected films will be presented to film dignitaries who will judge a number of categories such as Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor.

The Young Musicians of the Gulf (YMOG) is staging a celebration of young musical talent with a competition to take place at St Christopher’s School’s Isa Town and Saar sites from January 27. The Grand Final of the competition will take place on January 29, at 7pm at the Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa Hotel.

The annual BSPCA Dog Walk will take place on January 30 at the Animal Welfare Centre in Askar. Registration costs BD10 and you can either bring your own dog or borrow one of the shelter’s dogs by pre-booking. The route is 4km for adults and there is a shorter 2km route for kids.

Gates open at 9am, with the registration desk opening at 9.30am and the walk beginning at 10.30am. Sponsorship forms can be downloaded from the BSPCA’s Facebook page or collected from the shelter’s thrift shop, the British Club or the Dilmun Club.

Words BookstoreCafé, Buidaiya is hosting a series of workshops this month and February.

The first series is titled ‘The Reading Writer’ and explores short stories and novel excerpts from several master writers, focusing not only on the story being told but the way in which it is revealed. Classes will also include weekly writing exercises.

This series will run on January 17, 24, 31 and February 7 from 9am-10.15am and costs BD50.

The second series is titled ‘Creative Writing Workshop’ and participants will have the opportunity to have their writing critiqued by a supportive group of writers. Classes will include discussions on the writing craft, suggested readings, and writing exercises. 

This series will run on January 15, 22, 29 and February 5, 12 and 19 from 10am-11.30am and costs BD80.

The final series is a ‘Children’s Creative Writing Workshop’ and is open for children aged 13-16. This workshop involves creative writing exercises, where the aim is to create a portfolio of work and polish a short story to be read during the last class. Participants will receive written feedback on assignments and a progress report.

This series will run on January 17, 24 31 and February 7, 14 and 28 from 3.30pm-4.30pm and costs BD70.

Today (January 7)
A special Swiss gourmet feast will be available every day from today to March 7 at the Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain’s Silk restaurant in Muharraq. This includes classic Gruyere and Vacherin cheese melted in a white grape beverage. There is also Fondue Bourguignon served with beef cubes and a wide range of other fondues.

Tomorrow (January 8)
Forty exhibitors are participating at the Bahrain Schools Expo 2015, which will be held at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre, Sanabis, from today until Saturday.

The expo aims to facilitate communication between parents and institutions interested in education, allowing parents to identify and select activities and events that support education in Bahrain.

The Indian Fine Arts Society is hosting a tribute to the father of Carnatic Music, Saint Thyagaraja, in a festival titled Thyagaraja Aradhanai at the Bahrain Society of Engineers Auditorium, Juffair, starting at 6.30pm.

Head to the Royal Golf Club for its Links Friday Carvery Brunch, which includes a range of starters, live cooking stations, traditional carved meats, desserts and more.

Lebanese-German artist Amal Deyhle will exhibit her work in Bahrain for two weeks, starting today, at the Hend Gallery in Muharraq. Under the theme Wander Lust, the paintings will showcase the globetrotting artist’s various influences.
