This week both Arsenal U21 and Joga started their campaigns in season 11 of the GulfWeekly Ladies Football League at Soccer City in Janabiya.

Joga had the daunting prospect of playing last year’s winners Arsenal Ladies. Both teams went close to scoring in the first half, but neither side was able to produce the finishing to take the lead.

The second half saw Arsenal Ladies come out flying, with Alex Ziegler scoring shortly after the restart with the first of a brace. This was a great comeback goal for Alex, who was celebrating her first start for more than two seasons because of injury.

Arsenal Ladies then finished the job off to seal their first three points of the season with further goals from Rama Salem and Alex again ensuring a convincing 3-0 victory.

The Arsenal U21s also got off to a flyer, beating RCSI 4-0, with Kia Hanahoe and Teddy Walton scoring before the break. In the second half RCSI came back into the game and really pushed the youngsters back until 10 minutes before the end when a glorious volley from Maggie Stephens proved decisive before Walton notched her second.

This result puts them top of the table on goal difference after two weeks … but, for how long? This week, top of the table plays second with Arsenal U21s taking on Venus.

And RCSI face Seef with both teams hoping to secure their first three points of the campaign tonight.
