The Chuckle Club rolled into town for the next stop in its relentless drive to bring mirth to the kingdom, and delivered its strongest performance yet.
Featuring Canadian Dana Alexander, American Mark Normand and Englishman Tom Allen, jokes and wisecracks poured forth all evening and had the game crowd at the British Club in stitches.
Dana took to the stage first and won the audience over with some good ol’ self-deferential humour and her experiences with racial stereotyping across the world. She left us with a wonderful piece of advice on how to get young kids to stop sucking their thumbs too!
Normand followed, and took me completely by surprise by being the opposite of what I expected from an American. He was soft-spoken, subtle and the humour was clever rather than overt. His was easily my favourite act of the night, my sole wish was that he had more time!
To finish up, Allen delivered a performance that was quintessentially British: sarcastic, quirky and satricial, all backed up by an exceedingly posh accent that matched the subject matter perfectly.
It was a great feeling to laugh heartily through the night without any tinges of disappointment, and also to see a packed house at the British Club, as a lively atmosphere makes for a much more entertaining show.
