WHETHER you are a trend-setter or follow the catwalk with interest, it helps to be ‘in the know’. Cut out and keep this FashionWeekly Spring/Summer 2015 trend report in order to please the fashion gods. That’s the reason why TV series such as What Not to Wear are still airing and proving popular … some people just need the help!
* Best in black & white This classic will never leave the catwalk and this time around feel free to mix your prints and make sure monochrome is your mantra. The best thing about this trend is that you can probably find black and white pieces in your wardrobe already to add to the collection.
* Get the gingham Fashionistas are calling it the ‘Print of Spring’ as designers use their own version on the runway with chic styles and colours far away from mum’s picnic table-cloth.
* Lovin’ the lace Think oversized crochet doilies cut to cover your body in fantastic form. Don’t go ‘all over’ lace either because you will end up looking like a grandma. Pick a lace top and pair it with a simple skirt.
* Boho babe Like a Bohemian, show your wanderlust and unconventional nature by picking up a blousy dress in a groovy print that says ‘genuine gypsy’.
* Geometric prints Have a pattern play with circles, triangles and hexagons by choosing a piece that suits your frame. If you carry weight on your hips, then choose a printed top and go for a simple monochrome look on the bottom. You will surely measure up this spring by picking up a geometry aesthetic, without even one foot in maths class.
* Shirt-dress staple This season’s must-have is a shirt-dress and you can wear it in so many ways. Make it edgy by picking a dress with sharp lines and pair it ankle boots and a boxy purse. Go Boho by wrapping a skinny belt around your waist with a back-pack purse and some suede boots. If the ‘minimalist’ look is what you fancy then find a clean cut and wear it with loafers. It’s that simple.
* Yes to yellow Whether it is custard or mustard don’t be shy because there is a shade for everyone this spring. Designers are destined to have women wearing yellow so open your eyes and look on the brighter side for this must-have shade in your wardrobe.
* Okay to obi An obi is a wide belt originally worn in traditional Japanese clothing, and means ‘sash’. Consider it one of spring’s most flattering trends. Tie on an obi belt and knot it to the side for optimum waist-whittling benefits. It looks best on the straight-figured woman who can now cinch a waist.
* Say it with suede There is something about wearing suede that feels so natural and luxurious. Find some key pieces in pretty pastels and any retro shade will do. Opt for a mini-skirt, biker jacket or crop-top in a nice soft palette.
* Trainers, gladiators and slides Have you done any ‘sole’ searching lately? Trainers still top the catwalk, but there is quite the buzz about what fashion fiends are calling the ‘Glamiator sandal’. Go for simple lace-ups or take on the dramatic thigh-high cage effect. Also watch out for two-strap or plain slides to pair with your outfits. Finally footwear is friendly. Your podiatrist will be happy.
* Seventies show If you are dazed and confused about this season’s big seventies time-warp, then listen up for the ‘skinny’. Snag yourself a pair of platforms, some groovy flares, fringe, denim or crochet and you will be in the know about what is ‘happenin’ man’.
