We are at the halfway mark, summer days are flying by and now you will either be pulling your hair out and counting down the days until your little angels return to school or be shaking your head in disbelief at how fast these lazy summer days are disappearing.

Many expat wives and husbands have spent weeks apart with one continuing at work whilst the other flies home with the children.

It got me thinking the other night whilst enjoying a glass or two of wine with an old friend, when she asked how I coped being away from the husband so long? Strangely enough, it hadn’t even crossed my mind up until that moment.

It’s a sure sign our summer is going well but, of course, this hasn’t been the case every year!

Before I know it, I’m blabbing uncontrollably, I have verbal diarrhoea about the stresses us expat wives endure over the long summer months! Top of my list, of course, is being a single parent for the majority of the school holidays whilst living with friends and family.

I confess my bitterness towards the husband when following his carefree Facebook posts with pics of him lounging by the pool!

Meanwhile, I’m faced with ‘mum what are we doing today?’ I’m out of control as I recall my ultimate psycho behaviour upon picking up the husband from Glasgow airport one year after seven weeks with the kids living with his parents and he appears with his shoulder in a sling due to a mountain bike accident!

But this summer is good and maybe I’m happy the mountain bike has been replaced by running shoes.
