Vitamin C

I hear it from a lot of people: they don’t like to take vitamin C because it upsets their stomach or gives them heartburn.

But you have to know that vitamin C is crucial for health. Not only for immunity, vitamin C also strengthens the blood vessels, is used for creating collagen for the skin, and also enters into the cycle of creating energy. In fact, vitamin C therapy is even used to treat cancer in some specialised clinics.

Many of us are deficient in vitamin C because our bodies cannot produce it on its own. But the trap that many fall into is taking effervescent vitamin C or regular vitamin C tablets. This type usually contains flavouring and preservatives (not a good idea) and often upsets the stomach as well because of its acidity levels.

Your best choice is a good-quality vitamin C the contains magnesium to buffer the acidity. You might see it written as ‘buffered vitamin C’ or ‘magnesium ascorbate’. Build your intake slowly over a few days and make sure vitamin C is part of your daily routine.
