Recent changes in heart have allowed a certain billionaire to give away part of his treasure in honour of his own little treasure.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has net-worth holdings of around $46.8 billion and is one of the youngest billionaires to date.

He and his wife have also recently been blessed with the birth of a new baby girl, Max, an event which inspired the doting dad to make life ‘as good as possible’ for her generation.

Along with Zuckerberg, many other billionaires have followed the trend of Microsoft founder Bill Gates, by giving away considerable sums to worthy causes.

Now, when I look at myself, who is the ultimate saver when it comes to money (seriously, BD20 a month if I try hard enough), I can’t help feeling that there is such a thing as having too much money.

Some people spend their fortunes, like US businessman and would-be president Donald Trump, on, in my opinion, ridiculous gold-plated jets or multi-million-dollar golf courses for their own temporary amusement.

People should be free to do what they want with their own money, but the top one per cent of people in the world should be prepared to set an example for the rest of the world to follow.

Zuckerberg has agreed on giving away 99 per cent of his earnings to charity as a gift to the next generation, which should go a long way to making a difference. Just think about how big a million dollars is … now times that by a thousand and you’re there.

Billionaires have the power to make great things happen, like Zuckerberg and Gates. There may be a few rich snobs … but, then again, there are a few rich heroes too.
