Gulf Weekly Alneaimi snatches a double

Alneaimi captured an historic double in the first-ever races of the Bahrain Superbike Championship (BSBK) where the riders were competing on identical Ducati 899 Panigale sport bikes.

He registered a rousing start in the series’ inaugural meeting. The Qatari dominated the opening race, winning by a massive margin of 32.798secs. Wesley Pearce from the UK was second, while Bahrain’s Ali Adiby claimed the last podium step 33.119secs behind.

Rounding out the top eight were Suriya Raja of India, Sheikh Jassim Al Thani of Qatar, Ian Charles of the UK, Thamer Ibrahim of Saudi Arabia and Rayad Alemadi of Qatar.

In race two, Alneaimi secured another smooth victory in race two to send out a stern warning to his BSBK rivals. He finished the 11-lap event in 13:21.983 – 9.066secs ahead of Pearce and 9.205secs in front of fellow-Qatari Fahad Alsuwaidi.

Classified fourth through eighth, respectively, were Adiby, Sheikh Jassim, Raja, Charles and Saudi’s Ibrahem Al Sharidah.

“The first race was good for me,” Alneaimi said. “I really enjoyed the bike. It had a good setup, and I tried to push hard in the beginning. No problems at all.

“In race two, I feel that I destroyed the tyres a little bit. But it was OK. I am very happy to finish both races in first position.”

Alneaimi commended the organisers of the first-ever BSBK, and added that he looks forward to racing again in the arrive-and-drive championship. “It was an amazing first round,” he said. “Everything was very good. From the bike to the organisation to the people.

“Thanks to everyone who made it good for us. This is the first championship here in Bahrain in Superbikes and I am trying to support it. I invite all riders to come and join us and to enjoy this sport and to help the Bahrain track make this sport good.”

The next round of the BSBK will take place on February 12 at the BIC.
