One of the world’s leading public speakers will be gracing the Bahrain stage this week as he aims to inspire participants celebrating the 10th anniversary of Indian Chartered Accounts in Bahrain (ICAB).

Toastmaster Aditya Maheswaran will be hosting a special workshop on Friday from 4pm-7pm at the Bahrain Conference Centre in Sanabis.

Aditya finished runner-up in the World Championship of Public Speaking in the 2015 event held in Las Vegas. He kick-started his oratory career a decade ago when he joined the Chennai Toastmasters Club while studying at PSBB K.K. Nagar and Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, and has since gone from strength-to-strength.

He first won competitions at club level, before progressing through division and national levels in India and then on to the global stage.

Aditya said: “I have competed at international level twice. The first time, I finished third in the semi-final, but I regrouped and was so delighted to finish runner-up in the final in 2015. To finish second out of more than 40,000 entrants was a huge honour, and, of course, I hope to go one better next time.”

Toastmaster World Championships involve choosing a topic and then preparing a speech. Contestants are judged on a number of criteria including speech development, organisation, value imparted, audience response, body language and voice modulation. The man of many words, who continues to live and work in Mumbai, explained: “If you can impact one person’s life through a speech you give, it will give you a rush that will last a life time.”

Meenakshi Sundaram, the organiser of the event, expressed his delight at bringing the star to the kingdom.

“It’s really exciting to bring someone of Aditya’s stature here, and there’s lots of excitement in the ICAB fraternity and the wider public, who are, of course, welcome,” he said.

“He will also be staying on Saturday and Sunday where he will be hosting workshops, and overall we are expecting approximately 300 participants. It’s an honour and privilege for us to host him.”

Entry to the event on Friday costs BD5. For more details, call 36741038.
