Cup of joy for engineering department

The Engineering Department team of Peter Hughes, Mark Farrell, Les Young and Yoy Young were runaway winners of the 60th edition of the Bapco Inter-departmental Golf Tournament at Awali Golf Club on Saturday with an impressive 125 points.

First played in the 1956/1957 season, this competition, sponsored by Bapco, is an 18-hole Stableford team event and was originally for Bapco employees only. Now extended to all AGC members, 44 players turned out to compete for the cup.

Yoy Young, from the winning team, posted the best individual score of 45 points and received a big handicap cut for her efforts.

The cup, engraved ‘Presented by Bahrain Petroleum Company Limited, 1957’, was presented to the winning team by Abdul Elah Fakhroo, of Bapco, and Bill Scarth, AGC Captain.

Team results: Winner - Engineering Department (125 points; Peter Hughes, Mark Farrell, Les Young, Yoy Young), runner-up - Security Department (111, Adel Al Gaoud, Hussain Salem, Nasser Eid, Abdulla Mubarak).
