When chipping, being able to judge line and distance well requires a consistent strike every time. Leaning the shaft forward to the target and having the hands ahead of the ball are essential at set up.

The stroke itself should be smooth and the hands need to return to their original position, for example leading the club head through impact.

A great drill to maintain the correct wrist angle at impact, rather than ‘scooping’ is to place a pen under your watch so it lies flat against the back of your top hand and wrist. As you swing through, the pen will stop the wrist from bending the wrong way, maintaining the correct angle for solid contact.
