Members turned out in force for the recently held Awali Golf Club (AGC) annual general meeting, keen to hear the captain’s and treasurer’s reports, to vote for the new committee and to have a say in how the club will be run for the next year.
The meeting kicked off with outgoing president Steve Brown, mentioning a number of changes in the constitution.
Club Captain Bill Scarth then highlighted that AGC has had a very successful season. A record sum of money was raised for local children’s charities, there was a very active competition and social calendar and numerous improvements had been made to the course and the clubhouse.
Scarth highlighted his particular satisfaction that 18 new handicaps had been issued, this alone ‘pointing to the healthy position’ of the club. He also thanked the outgoing committee and noted the ‘fantastic achievement’ of a volunteer organisation running not only the club but also the Bahrain and Bahrain Ladies Opens.
Treasurer Les Young followed with an equally positive report on the healthy financial position of the operation. This will allow for another successful season to come and more improvements to the facilities, he added.
The committee positions were then elected with a combination of experienced hands and fresh faces
With corporate knowledge not stretching back to include such an event, the outgoing president simply shook the hand of the old/new captain. Tradition was soon back on track as the meeting was wrapped up in the time-honoured AGC fashion with re-elected Scarth ringing the bell.
