The older my wee ‘Global Citizens’ get, the harder I find this expat life.

Doubts creep in about this way of living and I even find myself wondering how much longer we want to continue with this nomadic life, raising TCK’s (third culture kids). I can feel myself becoming somewhat melancholy after each trip taken back home because I know we are leaving one child behind, soon to be two!

Before I know it, our journeys back will be myself and the husband! To be honest, it fills me with dread – an empty nest with ‘Mum & Dad’ on a different continent! How did we get so far down the line in this expat journey?

We had agreed on a two-year posting in Singapore, and then we’d head straight back home. How many times have I heard that from fellow expats? Quickly we had fallen hook line and sinker for our new life filled with adventures, all year round sunshine and tax free earnings.

What’s not to love? But of course, that’s the problem, the reason why it’s so hard to go back to real life ... So, we then moved our expat timeline to “we’ll go back for the kid’s GCSEs/A Levels” but that too, soon changed!

Now I find myself struggling at a particular crossroads in our lives. Do we move our expat timeline once again or do we plan our route home? Only time will tell!
