St. Christopher’s School emerged overall champions of the 2017 Mini Olympics, organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Education,.

Culminating 30 gold medals, 21 silver and 19 bronze for a total sum of unprecedented 70 medals, the British-curriculum school finished well ahead of second-placed Kanoo International School (12, 9, 6) and third Al Noor International School (11, 9, 11), who settled for the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Other schools who made their mark this year were the Indian School, who were fifth overall, followed by East Riffa Boys School, the Sacred Heart School, AMA International School, Hawar International School with Al Mahd School rounding off the Top 10.

Budaiya School was crowned champion of the primary boys football tournament in the Fourth Mini Olympics. The put on an impressive display to win 4-0 win over Al Hekma International School at the Bahrain Football Association grounds in Riffa.

Barbar took the mini handball championship. The sports club were level with Al Ahli in their four-team round robin final round with seven points reach from three matches. However, the former had a better goal difference, which proved decisive.

The tournament was staged at the Bahrain Handball Association gym in Um Al Hasam with 11 teams divided into two groups.

Parents and teachers watching the action couldn’t fail to be impressed by the tremendous sportsmanship on display, despite many of the matches being close-knit affairs.

On the concluding day of athletic events, St Chris dominated the girls’ events winning the bulk of medals in both the intermediate and secondary stages.

The curtain came down on the Mini Olympics last Thursday with a simple, yet expressive closing ceremony at Isa Sports City’s Bahrain Volleyball Association hall in Riffa.

It was attended by senior representatives of the organising bodies. One of the aims of the Mini Olympics was to encourage wider participation in sports and, with many players having already signed up for regular coaching as a result of participating, the Bahrain Olympic Committee appears to have achieved its goal.
