Golden moments as the Oldies touch down in Sri Lanka

THE Bahrain Rugby football Club’s Golden Oldie Tour to Sri Lanka, as highlighted in GulfWeekly, proved eventful on-and-off the pitch.
The players presented a cheque for $1,000 to the principal and children of s De S Jayasinghe College and coached the pupils.
They also distributed sports kit to the Royal College Panadura. And, Louie Tonkin, the club’s first team coach, organised training sessions with the college’s U16s and also distributed more donated kit to Wesley College Colombo.
A number of the touring team also attended a sponsored lunch and presented clothing to the children at Islamia Home for the Needy and Orphaned.
Playing action featured a match against Old Zahira College and a hard-fought 10-10 draw and a 38-17 loss against The Puffins in a match officiated by World Cup referee Dilroy Fernando.
The players, wives and supporters enjoyed a beach BBQ with their host teams and guest of honour, Priyanthe Ekanayake, CEO of Sri Lankan RFU and a former captain of the national team.
“We would like to send a special thanks to all of our sponsors, especially Lucey Electrical for the personalised kit, and to all those kind people who both donated sports kit and clothing,” a spokesman for the Golden Oldies said.
