Tekkers Academy Bahrain is staging an evening of football, fitness and fun at RCSI in Busaiteen on June 10 from 9pm to 11pm, plus a variety of stalls run by female entrepreneurs. The aim is to raise funds and awareness of the Equal Playing Field initiative, supported by coach Deena Shipwright who will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and playing in the highest altitude game of football ever played, as reported by GulfWeekly. It’s BD2 to enter and to book a stall costs BD15.

The Manama Singers, under the direction of Leah Churchill, will be performing a concert of spirituals and popular hymns at St Christopher’s Cathedral on June 8 at 6pm. The programme includes hymns such as All things bright and beautiful and God be in my head and among several spirituals Swing low sweet chariot, Balm in Gilead and Down by the Riverside. The concert is to be held as part of the Cathedral Concerts’ series and tickets are BD5 with children able to attend for free. Tickets may be bought in advance from the Cathedral Office or reserved by calling 17253866 / cathedra@batelco.com .

It will be an especially poignant occasion for singing stalwart Elizabeth George who, after 20 years of living and working in Bahrain, will finally be leaving, returning to Bangalore on the following day to spend more time with her family. She has been a member of Manama Singers for 19 years.
