THIS is the season to forget that minimalistic motto of ‘less is more’ as sparkly and embroidered attire is now back on the fashion hot list.

Women are stepping out in vibrant jalabiyas, kaftans and abayas in different fabrics, colours and designs at evening functions … and also busy preparing for the many Eid festivities to come.

Saks Fifth Avenue at City Centre Bahrain has been hosting a timely Ramadan Designer Fair to unveil the latest lines from some of the region’s most prominent designers.

There is a modern twist on Arabesque-style throughout the range of abayas, kaftans, handbags, shoes and accessories on show.

Brands include Ninousha, which means ‘free your style’. It is one of the most sought-after labels in the contemporary fashion world and the work of Rana Tabbara, a Bahraini of Lebanese/American origin.

She is known for reinventing traditional clothing using fresh, bold and playful looks through the fabrics and combinations that she uses.

Her collection of colourful patterned kaftans continues to captivate crowds at fashion shows and impress a growing fan-base in the kingdom.

LEENAZ Design, created by sisters Leena, Fayqa and Homa Janahi, is another fashion favourite turning abayas into avant-garde delights.

Lalla Eman’s kaftans and jalabiyas are fit for any occasion and still produce that belle of the ball and Arabian princess feeling with many of the examples.

Her use of bold colours and lightweight fabrics are both delightful to the touch and beautiful to look at.

The fair will continue until the end of this month and exclusive pieces can be added to the wardrobe from designers such as Ninousha, AKS, Leenaz Design, Nicoli and Anaya to name but a few.
