When faced with a chip shot from just off the green, deciding which club to use or which shot to play completely depends on the scenario. In order to get the ball to roll more on the green after landing, we can place the ball to the back of the stance with the hands slightly ahead; this will cause the club to de-loft. In general terms playing this shot, for a sand wedge the ball will be in the air for 50 per cent of the shot and roll for 50 per cent, using a 7-iron the ball will be in the air for 30 per cent of the shot and roll for 30 per cent. Using this information you can plot your way around the green, avoiding slopes and hollows and using them to your advantage where necessary.
