Gentlemen, is there an inner you that needs to try out being an ugly sister or to ‘lord it’ as the handsome prince … or how about everyone’s friend, Buttons, or a bumbling king?

Ladies, The Manama Theatre Club’s pantomime team, is searching for a Cinderella, an evil stepmother and a haughty queen - which are you?

For the uninitiated, panto is a type of musical comedy stage production, designed for family entertainment. It was developed in England and is still performed throughout the UK, generally during the Christmas and New Year season and, to a lesser extent, in other countries like Bahrain. Oh yes it is!

The 2017 pantomime in Manama has lots of smaller roles for those with busy schedules and for first-timers who want to lose themselves in a chorus before taking over the stage. Singers are especially needed.

Or if backstage is more you - come and meet them too.

There are children’s roles as well and those aged eight and over are invited to audition. The directors are looking for a few fairies and dancers. The children’s audition will be a workshop so they can enjoy a bit of a drama class too.

The date is Saturday at the British Club – children 3pm-4.30pm (arrive before 3pm to register) and adults, 5pm for an hour-and-a-half. Non-British Club members should make contact in advance so names can be added to our guest list.
