Nine teams took part in the eight v eight formatted competition – featuring around 100 players – a clear indication of the growing number of women now playing football in the region.

All of the games were held at the RCSI campus in Busaiteen. Group A consisted of hosts RCSI, Bahrain Sparks U17 national team, Eastern Flames from Saudi Arabia and Winners Academy.

Eastern Flames came out on top with Winners in second place

Group B had Ravens FC, Super Soccer, Venus Tekkers, Juventus and Black Castle competing. With three wins and a draw between them, Venus Tekkers and Super Soccer progressed to the knockout stage.

The semi-final line up saw Venus Tekkers beat Winners Academy 4-0, and Super Soccer and Eastern Flames fight out a 0-0 draw, with Super Soccer reaching the final after the penalty shootout.

The competition’s climax was a close with Venus Tekkers coming through to record a 2-1 victory, the goal conceded was the only one all night.

Adam Wallace, head of RCSI Sports and Recreation Centre, presented the trophies and medals to the teams and said that he was impressed by the standard of play hoped that this could become an annual event.

The teams are now looking forward to the start of the Bahrain League season, planned for early November.
