AWARD-WINNING paediatric urologist Dr A. K. Singal will be visiting a top private hospital in Bahrain to carry out check-ups and procedures on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Dr Singal, the founding director for the Hypospadias Foundation, has more than 30 scientific papers in peer reviewed indexed medical journals to his credit, is being hosted by Ibn Al Nafees Hospital in Manama.
Usually children have to travel with their families from the Gulf region to get treated under Dr Singal’s care in India.
Hypospadias is a congenital disorder of the urethra where the urinary opening is not at the usual location. It is the second-most common birth abnormality of the male reproductive system, affecting about one of every 250 at birth.
Dr Singal, who trained at renowned medical centres in India and the US, was bestowed with the prestigious Mridula Rohtagi Gold Medal for Pediatric Surgery in 2004, is also involved in creating awareness regarding pediatric urology as a specialty and devoting his time and energy to setting up a kidney stone clinic.
He believes that children with kidney problems need to be diagnosed and treated early as they are vital for growth and development. “Most of the cases where we see renal failure in young adults are probably due to pediatric nephro-urological conditions not recognised and well managed at a young age,” he said.
Dr Singal has vast experience in endoscopic injections for vesico-ureteral reflux disease and laparoscopic surgery for conditions such as pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction, VUR, ovarian cysts, hernia and other urological conditions in children. Laparoscopic surgery helps in faster recovery and less pain.
Ibn Al Nafees Hospital’s well-respected Dr Mahmood Abbas, consultant paediatric surgeon, will assist Dr Singal in all procedures and case follow-ups.
