Jewellery Arabia 2017 officially smashed through the 50,000 visitors barrier for the first time to the delight of the annual expo organisers.

This year’s show, inaugurated under the patronage of His Royal Highness the Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre, attracted a sensational 50,789 attendees, figures released on Monday revealed.

The 26th exhibition showcased tens of thousands of jewellery pieces and accessories to private buyers, as well as wholesalers, manufacturers, traders and retailers.

The exhibition welcomed members of the public free of charge and show organisers UBM AEM said visitors quickly descended on the 21,000sqm treasure trove over the course of five days. “We did it! Our attendance figure was more than 50,000. We are delighted,” a spokesman said.

Visitors were welcomed by around 600 local, regional and international exhibitors who launched new product lines, displayed their latest collections and introduced limited edition pieces exclusively at the show.

Famous exhibitor names included Chopard, Audemars Piguet Moyen-Orient Sal, Hublot Sa, Schreiner Fine Jewellery, De Grisogono, Al Zain and Al Mahmood Pearls. The amount of money spent by visitors has not been revealed.  Bahrain-based Al Zain Jewellers said it has received ‘serious enquiries’ for its $2million Cascade of Dreams piece, featured in last week’s issue of GulfWeekly.
