MORE than 80 players braved the winds to participate in the Awali Golf Club’s  two-day Russell and Memorial competition.

The Russell Cup and associated prizes are awarded for the aggregate two-day gross score, while the Memorial Trophy and prizes are awarded for the aggregate two-day net score.  The competition has a long and interesting history with the Russell Cup having been played since at least 1940.

The Russell Cup (Gross) Winner was Ahmed Al Noaimi with 75/82. Runner-up was Rashid Al Qutami with 83/75. Third, fourth and fifth places were taken by Essa Al Qutami 80/78, Hamad Al Qutami 82/77 and Salem Khalifa 84/76.

The Memorial Trophy (Net) Winner went to Mohammed Al Aathem with 74/66 with Essa Al Kaabi in runners-up position with 68/74. Third, fourth and fifth places were taken by Sarah Hobday 75/68, K. N. Singh 72/72 and Jo Pawson 75/70.

The day one Medal went to Ahmed Al Noaimi, and the day two Medal went to Rashid Al Qutami. Both men scored 75.

The best Gross (outside main prizes) went to Diab Al Noaimi with 76 on day one and to Ebrahim Al Hasel with 80 on day two. The best Net (outside main prizes) went to Dave Bailey with 67 on day one and to Eui Mo Koo with 72 on day two.

The Closest-To-The-Hole winners were Joan Martin and Rashid Ahmed on day one, while Ross Montagu achieved the Longest Putt. Similarly, the winners were Sarah Hobday and Gerry McDermott on day two, with Richard Pawson taking the Longest Putt accolade.
