On Friday, Awali Golf Club will stage a medal format competition, sponsored by African & Eastern, the last of the season’s 13 Clemitson Series competitions.
The gross and nett results for all singles medal competitions contribute to the series, the scores aggregated.
Prizes are awarded for the lowest gross score and lowest nett score for both gents and ladies. So as to allow a little space for absence, only the best seven scores over the 13 are used to calculate the final placings.
For the gents, this weekend will see some frisson as the top three players are all in with a chance to win the gross prize, the McGregor Award: currently Ali Musbah has 509, Salem Khalifa Masood has 510 and Ahmed Al Noaimi has 511.
When reviewing all the Clemitson Series results, another interesting statistic has arisen. A total of 1,230 rounds have been played over the 12 Clemitson competitions to date. In all those rounds, the lowest gross score was 70 – not a single sub-70 achieved.
This puts into perspective the high quality of the players who headed the leader board in the recent Bahrain Open Championship, as six rounds were sub-70, these scores being even more praiseworthy as they were achieved on the more difficult championship course.
