THE Royal Golf Club (RGC) has launched a new golf studio bay and its ambassador Sam Hobday, a former St Christopher’s School pupil who has turned golf tour professional, was on hand to showcase the new equipment and technology installed at the Royal Golf Academy.
The event, held last Wednesday, was hosted by Deb Todd, the club’s head golf professional, and his teaching team of Zander Potgieter and Marc Arnold, and was attended by academy students, club captains and other invited guests.
“The clinic involved talking about different types of shots to play on the course and the best way for the average golfer to improve their game,” explained Hobday. “Being ambassador for the club I also talked about how I prepare for professional tournaments and the pressures that are associated with playing at that level.
“The event was very informal with a good atmosphere and lots of question and answer opportunities.”
Hobday worked through his wedges, irons, woods and concluded on his driver and the club showed the Flightscope launch monitor readings for each of the shots he demonstrated on the night.
The gold studio contains the latest Flightscope and V1 technology and is open to both members and guests during golf lessons staged by the club’s professionals.
As reported in GolfWeekly, the RGC teed off its 2018 plans by announcing that Hobday would take on the role of Club Ambassador, starting off by representing the club in Egypt on the Mediterranean Tour at the Allegria Classic.
Hobday has been a member of the club since its opening and returned to Bahrain after attending university in the US where he completed a four-year degree whilst playing golf at collegiate level.
Hobday won the Club Championship in 2017 and decided that was the ideal time to turn professional, just in time for the King Hamad Trophy hosted in November, after battling it out on the Mena Tour for the past 12 months.
