Thousands of people from across the kingdom are getting ready to glow in a fun run at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in a bid to promote healthy exercise.

The BIC Neon Run, which is being organised by the Bahrain Road Runners (BRR) in partnership with the circuit, will give participants a chance to enjoy the sport in a festival atmosphere.

“The neon run is a glow-in-the dark-run where participants can enjoy running a short distance of 1km or 3.6km through neon lights and getting UV neon powder thrown at them,” said Fatima Alzain, BRR committee member. “We expect to have more than 3,000 people attending the event and registration is still open.

“We advise participants to wear comfortable sportswear and to simply have fun.

There will be an accompanying festival with music, food vendors, children’s play area, entertainment and small markets.”

The event, which will be held on January 25 from 3pm until 10pm, will also feature a DJ, a calisthenics performance and visual poi show by Discipline Academy. Also, the run is not timed which makes it ideal for both walkers and runners of all ages and athletic abilities to participate.

“The BRR is a nonprofit organisation that has been committed to promoting the sport in Bahrain for almost 40 years and we always encourage people of all ages and abilities to participate in pursuit of an active and healthy lifestyle.”

The 1km run is open for children aged three to 13 and starts at 6pm. The 3.6km run is open to those aged 14 and above and starts at 7pm.

Registration fee for the 1km category will be $10 (around BD3.800) and to enter the 3.6km run it will cost $27 (approximately BD10).

Each participant will receive a ‘goodie bag’ with a customised event shirt, glow sticks and neon crayons. Also, parents, guardians, carers and drivers can enter for free. Registration will end just before midnight on Tuesday.
