EXPERTS suggest children are inspired by their surroundings which is why the colour and the layout of a bedroom, where they often spend much of their time, can play an important role in their development.

Bright and vibrant hues not only put smiles on their faces but it also gives them a refreshing boost of energy to run, jump and play. And a combination of muter tones can help put their mind at ease and keep them feeling mellow and chilled while completing their homework or nap time.

Lighting also plays another essential factor alongside
 textiles and furnishings.
IKEA has this week shared a few tips to help parents create fun and functional bedrooms that will evolve as the child grows and will keep stimulating their creativity in the process.

Firstly, think of adding playful lighting to a room with warmth and ambience in mind. The way the light is encased can set a variety of uplifting tones. For example, many younger children love the circus. Imagine your child having their own shining circus tent at home in the form of a lamp.

The new TROLLBO pendant lamp is inspired by a circus tent with a flag at the top in the form of cord decorations. This lamp shade is made of plastic from recycled PET-bottles so not only is it whimsical to look at but it is also contributing to sustainability.

The next essential is finding the right warm and welcoming bed that will get a child looking forward to bed time. This stylish centrepiece can evolve over time with different sets of bedding and sheets, colour and patterns.

The timeless, traditional style of MINNEN extendable bed is available in dark yellow that’s fun to coordinate different styles with. But most importantly, the bed grows along with your child creating a long-lasting sleeping haven.

Blue and white are great colours to use to decorate a room as it’s known to have a soothing effect on boys and girls alike. Different shades, matched with complementing patterns and motifs, can create a vibrant space while maintaining its comforting appeal. Those interested in this concept can find many cushions, beddings, lamps and knick-knacks in these hues white and blue textiles. Its SÅNGLÄRKA collection, for example, features strong stripes and pretty florals in those shades in quilt covers, curtains and cushions that are made with sustainably-sourced cotton.

Other tips to liven up the room include the use of pictures on blank walls. They are easy to change and update as children grow and as their tastes change.

Parents are also encouraged to avoid certain products when recreating the room in order to keep children safe whilst running or playing such as sharp edges, small parts, accessible light sources or power sources that could pose a danger.
