Gulf Weekly Letters

On behalf of the Bahrain Volleyball Association, I’d like to invite GulfWeekly readers to come check out the U21 Volleyball World Championship starting tomorrow until July 27 at Shaikh Isa Sports City in Riffa.

Bahrain’s national team, which played in the recent Asian Volleyball Confederation Western Zone Qualification Tournament, were hugely successful in the qualifiers, taking first place among the six participating nations.

The head coach Yousuf Khalifa has been working each of the players hard and we should all come out to support them in this competition of 16 countries, including defending champions, Brazil.

Previously, Bahrain’s best finish was eighth in 1987 but I think this could be an iconic year as they have a home and training advantage.

I’d like to announce that there will be more than 40 Bahraini ICT companies participating in the Bahrain Pavilion at GITEX 2019 in Dubai in October. The event will also feature the participation of 20 Bahraini ICT entrepreneurs.

Participation in GITEX not only reflects the development of the ICT sector in Bahrain but it will also helps up look at the latest developments in the global technology sector. It will also allow us to enter into fruitful deals and partnerships and explore the best ways to develop companies in Bahrain for its services and products in accordance with international standards and regional market needs.

We have recently seen Amazon in Bahrain as a regional base and we expect this to be a major breakthrough in the ICT sector, especially towards bringing and localising global expertise in the fields of cloud computing, major data and more.

We have been very pleased with the participation of Bahraini participants in the previous GITEX, and we look forward to working together to integrate the services and products of the IT sector in Bahrain, enabling us to enhance the competitiveness of this sector locally and regionally.

We believe that GITEX is one of the best platforms to meet annually and discuss the prospects of developing the Bahraini technology sector according to the latest global trends

The pavilion is being organised by The Bahrain Technology Companies Society and WorkSmart for events management.
