Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM), a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, is set to produce models developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation for sale in India.

The agreement builds on a partnership between the two Japanese companies announced in 2017 to develop and market electric cars in India while Suzuki helps Toyota increase its presence in the fast-growing South Asian market. The models will also be used to sell in Africa and other markets.

Akio Toyoda, Toyota president, told Reuters: “Toyota, along with Suzuki, will do its best to enhance freedom and fun in a future society of mobility and to make ‘Make in India’ vehicles cherished in Africa and in many other countries around the world.”

Suzuki’s hybrid vehicles for the Indian market will be made using engines and batteries locally produced by Toyota. Suzuki will also produce two compact models based on its Ciaz and Ertiga models for India and supply Toyota with gasoline engines for compact vehicle models sold in Europe.

Toyota will produce electric vehicles based on its RAV4 SUV crossover and Corolla wagon for Suzuki in the European market. Suzuki will also produce its Baleno, Vitara Brezza, Ciaz, and Ertiga models to sell in Africa.
