People tend to bring nature into their homes in the form of plants, wall murals, accessories and even light. Some designers suggest adding colourful, animal printed and patterned rugs to change the look of a room and brands such as Alexander McQueen, Barber & Osgerby and Diane Von Frustenberg have the pieces to make that forest fever vibe a reality.

Alexander McQueen:

The British brand, which has been under the creative direction of Sarah Burton after the sad passing of McQueen in 2010, has been hailed as one of Britain’s greatest avant-garde labels. Its collections combine flawless tailoring with a darkly romantic aesthetic which is apparent in its humming bird and butterfly lines.

The Rug Company has translated McQueen’s visionary designs into cosy cushions and eye-catching rugs to be used in the bedroom, living room or even dining area.

For example, the Humming Bird rug features jewel-like iridescent birds hand woven in silk and metallic thread on a black cashmere background. It is an exceptionally fine tapestry, and though designed for use on the floor is also ideal as a wall hanging. The materials used include pashmina and silk aubusson as well.

Barber & Osgerby:

East London based design duo Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, who established their deisgn business in 1996, are renowned for their cutting-edge interior and industrial designs. They have created collections for many design greats, collaborated with international brands, designed the London 2012 Olympic Torch and have been awarded a number of prestigious prizes for their work which are found in various collections across the globe. Their collection for The Rug Company is fun, colourful and playful for parents and children to enjoy.

The Croco, for example, is part of the couples animal rug collection methodically designed to portray the characteristics of the beast it features. In this case, the crocodile is the hero of this story. The cheeky reptile is caught mid-snap with a flick of his spiked tail. The collection is hand knotted in Tibetan wool and is available in a range of smaller sizes.

Diane Von Frustenberg:

Since Diane’s arrival in the fashion world in 1972, she has captivated the industry with her iconic items. Her clothes are loved for their distinctive prints and confident colours in fine fabrics and her collection for The Rug Company is no different.

Her “Climbing Leopard” is a classic DVF design in lush emerald with leopard shapes that add depth and dimension. This statement piece is perfect for a dramatic entryway. It is hand knotted from silk and works well as a runner or a rug.
