Gulf Weekly NEW BEGINNINGS...She says

Gulf Weekly Stan Szecowka

Like many people, I look forward to the New Year. I see it as a fresh start- a chance to better myself in some way. This year is particularly important for me, since I’ll be graduating from school in the summer, and will be starting university (hopefully) in the fall. Already at the brim of milestones, I too will be turning eighteen in February. This young columnist is becoming an ADULT!

With becoming an ‘adult’ I will have a chance to assume more responsibility and display independence. For instance, I can get my driving license, I can buy my own pet (someone tell Ginger she’s about to get a couple of siblings), and interestingly also be sued or sue someone. Huh. Cool.

However, I know I am not the only one going through a couple of changes this year. My fellow neighbour Zaidaan, will too be experiencing his very own milestones, from completing his GCSEs to entering sixth form. (Note to Zaidaan, it unfortunately does not get any better.)

The world is full of people experiencing change, big and small. The New Year’s one job, other than to be unfairly favored in comparison to the other days of the year, is to demonstrate how much we have all changed. New Year’s Day is our metaphorical mirror of self reflection, where we tend to use it to examine whether we are healthier, fitter, and more successful since the last year. However, in my opinion, why take one year? Use every day as a chance to reflect, and reward one’s improvements! More importantly, show some love to August! I feel like we sometimes forget August is even a month...

Happy New Year everyone!
