POP culture art pieces and a series of motivational notes created by a talented teenager are proving to be a social media sensation and helping stray animals to survive.
Khushi Mehta, a 16-year-old New Millennium School student, has seen her work snapped up by followers and is using all the funds raised to support Trap-Neuter-Release community initiatives.
“I sell my art for a cause,” she said. “I want to help raise funds to help feed, shelter, spay or neuter the many stray animals in Bahrain. The harsh reality is that there are just too many of them.
“It also breaks my heart to see people abandoning their pets on the roadside and it appears illegal breeders keep adding to the problem. This is why I am a strong believer of the concept of ‘adopt, don’t shop’. It does warm my heart to see how many people have stepped up to help.”
The animal lover from Janabiyah, who has two Shih Tzu’s named Brownie and Milo, dabbles in art to express herself. “I love how fun and relaxing art can be,” added Khushi.
“I love how, whether it’s 3am or 3pm, I can simply dive into an art piece.
“There are endless sources of inspiration. I’d like to believe that my day-to-day experiences directly influence what I put on paper or on canvas. I’m so happy people enjoy what I am creating and that my hobby has turned into something more.”
Her colourful artwork contains images of animals, plants and popular cartoon and TV characters and are being snapped up from 500fils to BD5. All the proceeds go towards the cause. Khushi is no stranger to feeding and helping strays in her area and her family has fostered around 10 stray animals in recent years and found them permanent happy homes.
Khushi said she would also like to thank Dr Nimisha and the Blue Cross Veterinary Clinic for offering special prices for spaying and neutering, along with giving the strays a place to heal.
