Winners of the 2020 Medathalon, organised by the American Mission Hospital (AMH), were announced last week. The gruelling three-day virtual event was aimed at inspiring young minds to delve into the fields of biology and medical science, writes Naman Arora.
Sixty students from seven schools took part in the popular quiz component, according to co-organiser Dr Rama Krishna.
Angel Deena Saji of Asian School, Rohit Sriram of New Indian School and Harishankar Prasad of Asian School took home the top prize.
Falak Mansoor of Sacred Heart School, Neha Francis of Indian School Bahrain, Aaron D’Costa of Sacred Heart School, and Srinidhi Vardharajan of the New Indian School won the speech contest and Daniah Khaled of Alia National School was recognised as a “promising speaker”.
Teachers debated on whether students’ holistic wellness was the school’s responsibility. The Asian School teachers’ team, comprising Anjana Gopinath and Vanitha Reynold, won the top prize.
There was also a short film contest, won by The New Dawn created by the Indian School.
“The headwind of Covid-19 has disrupted the learning and education industry,” said AMH corporate chief executive Dr George Cheriyan during the grand finale.
“But for every disruption by an obstacle that comes our way, we must look for an opportunity to adapt to a new form. Once we come out of this crisis, you will see that a lot of learning is going to move outside, away from the conventional classroom.
“On our part, AMH remains committed to stay connected to the community so that both physical and mental wellbeing is cared for, despite the context we find ourselves in.”
The AMH Medathalon Health is Wealth 2020 overall trophy was won by the Indian School Bahrain.
