Patriotic photos taken by photographers of the Bahrain Photo Club are taking centre stage at a new exhibition at Harbour Gate within Bahrain Financial Harbour (BFH).

The exhibition highlights the culture and heritage of the kingdom and is being run until January 7 in a hybrid format, physically at the BFH and digitally in a virtual Art Steps gallery, launched on Bahrain’s 49th National Day.

“The exhibition showcases work that reflects the essence and pride of Bahrain during the annual celebration of its National Day,” said club president Shaikha Hanan bint Hassan Al Khalifa at the launch.

“Many general themes were discussed, including portrait, landscape, nature and architecture but we combined and narrowed the aforementioned to Bahrain National Day’s theme.”

All the photographers are members of the club and are hoping to highlight some of the ways Bahrain continues to maintain its identity.

The exhibition provides another platform for photographers, who have had to look for alternate revenue streams and exhibiting locations for their snaps this year.

“The lockdown in the time of pandemic caused some of the professional photographers to shift their fields – like from wedding photography to commercial fashion and food photography, while travel photographers took to street photography,” Shaikha Hanan added.

“Some started online workshops and amateur photographers went through their archives and used Lightroom, Photoshop and other applications to enhance their images.

“On the other hand, more competitions and exhibitions were made for artworks made during the lockdown period.

Shaikha Hanan also took part in The Great Lockdown Exhibition at Bin Matar House in Muharraq and has been working on bringing out a photography book using snaps from old archives.

The club is also planning its programme for the next year, with more photo walks in the works, depending on the health and precautionary measures.
