Script writers and movie makers in Bahrain are being invited to submit their ideas for the second edition of the ‘Action!’ screenwriting workshop.

The workshop, which was conducted by the French Embassy in Bahrain for the first time in October last year, provides an opportunity to a select group of writers to groom their scripts and have a shot at getting their short film funded. The embassy is calling for applicants to send a synopsis of their idea, 150-400 words in length, along with their resumé, CV or portfolio.

“We also request that applicants submit a letter stating where the idea comes from, why they wish to write and direct this short film, what is the purpose and genre of the film and how they are going to achieve their desired emotional effect with the audience,” the embassy said.

Selected applicants will be invited for an interview on February 14 and up to 10 will be selected for a workshop with experienced screenwriter Marianne Mayer.

These candidates will then be enrolled in the 57-hour screenwriting programme, after which a winner will be picked to work with Bahraini production company Blu Steel Films. All applications must be sent to helene.nkom@diplomatie.gouv.fr before the deadline of February 11.
