Artists from across the kingdom are celebrating the beginning of summer with a colourful showcase at Amwaj Islands.

Around 30 mixed-media artists have featured two paintings each in the Summer Art Forum Exhibition at the Creative Cube art gallery at The Lagoon. The expo, which kicked off on June 4, was organised by artists Bader Al-A’ali and Feryal Isshaq and held under the patronage of Health Minister Faeqa Al Saleh.

“We had such a fantastic turn-out of people who wanted to mark the beginning of the season with us as well as join our series of discussions and workshops that will run throughout the expo,” said Feryal, from Saar. She previously worked in the Education Ministry before taking on art full-time.

Feryal is showcasing her favourite acrylic painting, Bahraini Woman, and another one called Worried.

“I hope everyone enjoys the exhibition. It is great to see so much beautiful work,” she added.

Artist Nasreen Abdulrazzaq Alawadhi has also displayed her acrylic creations which she says, reflect Bahraini heritage and culture.

“I hope my pieces, Deers and AlKhamees Mosque, portray Bahrain’s culture to the new generation and show them how artwork can demonstrate the past and the future,” said Nasreen from Busaiteen.

“I would like people to change their perspective on art, which is powerful enough to tell history.”

Meanwhile, Buthaina Bucheery, a physician and artist from Isa Town, has displayed an art piece using watercolour.

“The painting features the Arabian Mounties,” said Buthaina, who specialises in watercolours and has participated in multiple local and regional art galleries. “I painted it on cotton paper and mounted it on wood.”

Buthaina is also a member of the Bahrain Fine Art Society. “It has always been a pleasure participating in local art shows as we get an opportunity to meet other artists and exchange ideas and thoughts,” she added. “Such shows allow emerging artists to gain enough courage to showcase their work to the public and get recognised.”

Artworks from an array of artists will remain on show until this Saturday (June 11).
