Mighty moustaches to raise awareness about Movember are sprouting up across the kingdom and the GulfWeekly aims to celebrate those wishing to highlight the movement by sharing their lip foliage with readers for all to enjoy.

Our first ‘Bro with a Mo’ is Mehdi Honar, the Bahrain Rugby Football Club’s former chairman, who is known across the kingdom for his ‘stache’ and health awareness efforts. He recently collaborated with Cordon Bleu Chef Ru’a Suleiman in creating a Pink Panther VW to help highlight Think Pink Bahrain’s breast cancer awareness campaign and now hopes his ‘soup strainer’ will do the same for Movember.

“To put it simply, men on average die younger when compared to women,” he said.

“One of the main reasons is that men are reluctant to talk about certain health conditions with doctors, friends and family.

“Among the conditions are prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

“Men also need to discuss mental health and suicide prevention.

“Their lack of knowledge about health conditions, self-examination and yearly check-ups is a factor. We are reluctant to learn or know how to examine one’s testicles.

“Campaigns such as Movember promote awareness of prostate, testicular cancer and men’s mental health by using the moustache - which is traditionally a sign of being a man - and would help to encourage men to talk more about their health openly.

“Other examples that promote men’s health is ‘playing rugby to tackle cancer’. Many rugby players around the world play only to promote men’s health. Our own Bahrain Rugby Club promoted Movember during their first home game since the West Asia Premiership was stopped in February 2020 due to Covid-19.

“Spreading message of men’s health awareness in Gulf Weekly, GDN and social media is very important and will continue to improve the lives of men in Bahrain.”

Mehdi got the ball rolling and even shared LuLu security’s Shahid Khan and his moustache.
