A Bahrain-based musician is starting the New Year on a high note as he releases a new track for people to vibe with on December 27, writes Mai Al-Khatib Camille.

Indian expat Romaan Ahmed, who goes by the stage name Romaan, claims The Moves like Shakira song has become an ‘instant hit’ with his friends.

“I played it for a few friends of mine who went on dancing to the music. I realised I was heading in the right direction,” said the 24-year-old from Barbar.

“The song is straight-forward. It talks about a man, who is moonstruck by the beauty and graceful dance moves of a woman, who reminds him of the top Columbian singer-songwriter Shakira.

“It’s nothing really deep, but just a song that people can vibe to.

“I thought of adding some Afro elements to the beat as I wanted this to be a dance-able song and it is. I hope you all enjoy it.”

The first song Romaan had ever launched was in 2020 called Have it All alongside his friend and talented musician Ashwin Shenoy, who goes by the musical alter-ego of Xenai.

“I was just a beginner then who had a voice note of me playing the guitar and humming melodies,” he said. “I showed Xenai what I came up with and together we ended up creating the track that’s now on all streaming platforms.”

Later on Romaan recorded his first solo song, I Don’t Wanna Lose My Mind, and released it in 2020. The music video of the track was put up on YouTube as well.

“A couple of close friends helped me record the video on an iPhone,” he added. “The song talks about a man trying not to dwell on what’s happening around the world. He wants to just mind his own business and do what keeps him at peace.

“In due course, I learnt to produce my own tracks, built a studio at home and gradually developed skills to produce in any genre I like.”

Romaan enjoys all styles of music, jumping from jazz to rock and from techno to hip-hop and film cores. He even had the chance to sell his beats online.

“My journey so far has been exciting, I have been meeting extremely talented people along the way,” said Romaan.

“I’m blessed to have people supporting me and giving me honest feedback so that my next project turns out better than the previous one. The last song I did was See You Again on September 27.

“My only goal is to write soulful songs and to let them touch the soul of the listener.”

Romaan is also working on music videos for his released tracks and a Techno\House album, which will be out by the end of this year.
