Those that love a sequel or a new instalment in a major movie franchise can rejoice as 2023 is chock full of them along with other films that are oozing originality and drama too.

Whether you are into superhero movies, sci-fi flicks or enjoy a comical chuckle, there is something for everyone. There are also too many to choose from, so here are five films to look forward to in the near future:

Knock at the Cabin

Directed by: M. Night Shyamalan

Release date: February 3

Starring: Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Dave Bautista, Rupert Grint, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Abby Quinn

The skinny: It’s been awhile since M. Night Shyamalan, the master of contemporary suspense, has released something and his movie preview teases just that. Without giving too much away, it’s about a married couple (Jonathan Groff and Ben Aldridge) and their daughter vacationing at a cabin in the woods when they’re held hostage by a group of strangers. They are told they must make a ‘horrible decision’ to prevent the apocalypse. But what is it?  Apparently this is based on Paul Tremblay’s book The Cabin at the End of the World.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Directed by: Peyton Reed

Release date: February 17

Starring: Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Kathryn Newton, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jonathan Majors, Bill Murray

The skinny: Another Ant-Man, another flick full of adventure. In this one, Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), with Scott’s daughter (Kathyrn Newton) and Hope’s folks (Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer), are sucked into the Quantum Realm. It’s bound to be another fun watch for the entire family to enjoy.

Scream 6

Directed by: Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett

Release date: March 10

Starring: Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere, Courteney Cox, Samara Weaving

The skinny: This popular horror franchise isn’t dying any time soon. The film features Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere and Courteney Cox as well as Dermot Mulroney, Henry Czerny, Samara Weaving and Tony Revolori. The film continues with the survivors of the latest Ghostface killings, sisters Samantha and Tara Carpenter and twins Chad and Mindy Meeks, leaving Woodsboro behind and starting a new chapter of their lives in New York City only to again be plagued by a streak of murders by a new Ghostface killer.

John Wick: Chapter 4

Directed by: Chad Stahelski

Release date: March 24

Starring: Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård

The skinny: This is one many are looking forward to cause ‘Tick tock Mr Wick, tick tock’. Keanu Reeves is back and he is on a rampage. The unstoppable assassin has to find new allies (including Hong Kong superstar Donnie Yen) and face new foes (including ex-Pennywise Bill Skarsgård) as he kicks, shoots and kills his way to freedom.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves

Release date: March 31

Directed by: Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley

Starring: Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Hugh Grant, Regé-Jean Page

The skinny: Hollywood is giving the beloved table top game, which was a popular animated series, another roll so to speak but with Chris Pine as a dancing, scheming Bard and co-director John Francis Daley who has Dungeons & Dragons experience.

Let’s see if they can finally get this fantasy adventure right for once.
