Talks, walks and performances continue to delight in the 17th edition of Spring of Culture.

The festival, which has more than 50 activities including performances, workshops, exhibitions and tours, had kicked off on January 19 and will run until the end of March.

Tonight at 8pm, Dr Bouchaib Saouri will present The Arab Journey at the Beginning of the Third Millennium: Constants and Transformations based on the experiences of travel literature throughout the ages, as well as the developing interests of travellers in terms of the forms and contents of their writings.

The lecture details the writing experiences of this literature among Arab travellers at the beginning of this millennium, along with its renewal.

On Thursday, Louisville rapper Jack Harlow will ignite the Al Dana Amphitheatre stage with his First Class hits.

The American artist started his career in 2015 and released several EPs and mixtapes before he was signed to Don Cannon and DJ Drama’s record label Generation Now in 2018, an imprint of Atlantic Records. His TikTok-friendly single What’s Poppin brought the singer with swagger viral fame in 2020. The show will start at 8.30pm.

Venue: Al Dana Amphitheatre.

Entertainment in Sakhir continues on Friday but this time it will be a barrel of laughs with stand-up comedy from famous comedian Kevin Hart. The Hollywood box office powerhouse with heart will likely bring the stage down with his wittiness, comical storytelling and more. His role in the movie Soul Plane gave him his comedic break and his 2011 comedy special Laugh at my Pain boosted his public profile even more so. He is also a successful entrepreneur as the chairman of Hartbeat; a global, multi-platform media company on mission to keep the world laughing together.

The show will start at 8:30pm.

Venue: Al Dana Amphitheatre.

There is an 8km Archaelogies Walkathon on Saturday at 8am through various sites north of Bahrain starting from Qal’at Al Bahrain Site.

 The trail will pass through surrounding farms, the Hilla Islamic Site, Al Hajar Burial Mounds, Al Shakhoura Burial Mounds and finally ending at Barbar Temples Site.

Venue: Qal’at Al Bahrain Site Museum.

Then at 8pm, enjoy the traditional musical stylings of Dar Bin Harban Band. Founded in the mid-1940s, in Muharraq by Mohammed bin Jassim bin Harban, the group continues to be instrumental in reviving a myriad of local traditional arts including Al-Ardhah, Al La’abouni, Al-Khammari, and Al-Fjiri. Venue: Dar Bin Harban.

There will also be a discussion on Saturday at 5pm about Self-publishing Photobooks + Zines by Aziz Motawa.

During the discussion, visitors will look at publications and photobooks coming out of Bahrain and Kuwait while examining the possible collaborations between photographers, curators, writers, and graphic designers in activating a culture of self-published art publications in the region.

Venue: Al Riwaq Art Space.

On Sunday, there is an exhibition entitled The Divine Proportion by Dr Mayasa Sultan Al Sowaidi. The event is about art and mathematics — two worlds that may seem completely separate as one is related to aesthetics, sensory and kinetic expression, while the other involves logic, accuracy, precision and truth. However, the researcher who looks deep into stereotypes will be able to find a bridge between beauty and abstraction in the world of numbers.

The exhibition opens at 7pm and runs until March 17 from 9am to 8pm, daily.

Venue: Art Centre.

On Monday, Lebanese media personality Nadim Dawoud Koteish will give a lecture about The Real Division in the Region Between – National States and Political Islam at 8pm.

Venue: Abdullah Al Zayed House for Bahraini Press Heritage

The Application 001 exhibition will open on Tuesday at 7pm showcasing the works of the first cohort of the Application 001 residency programme provided by Al Riwaq.

The exhibition runs until March 28 and is open from 10am to 8pm from Saturday to Thursday.

Venue: Al Riwaq Art Space

There will be a Musical Evening From France at 8pm on Tuesday in collaboration with the French Embassy featuring renowned French pianists Maxime Zecchini and David Bismuth. Various musical pieces by French composers and singers will be played including Bizet, Dalida, Édith Piaf and Charles Aznavour.
