Teens Vir Toolsidass and Sameer Dawani put their passion for sport in blog form to share their insights with people around the world, writes Mai Al-Khatib Camille.

The concept came together during the pandemic when the duo decided to spend their time productively by writing about something they both enjoy and people are taking notice.

“As close friends and neighbours in Bahrain for eight years, we used to watch a lot of sport events together,” said 16-year-old Indian expatriate Toolsidass, who lived in Bahrain for the first 15 years of his life before moving to Dubai to attend Jumeirah College.

“In 2021, before the Euros football tournament, we thought of creating a sports blog on the event. We called it The VSports Blog named after our initials V and S.

“We lived in the same compound earlier and so it was easy to work together. We hope to gain more and more viewers globally, so we can spread our passion for sports around the world.”

The teenagers are currently covering Formula 1, posting about race reviews and giving updates in the F1 world…and aim to expand their reach to basketball and cricket in the future.

However, what they both are more interested in is football.

“We used to play together in our compound almost every day for several years,” said Pakistani St Christopher’s student Dawani, 16.

“And, over the years, we’ve watched a lot of football matches together. In terms of playing, however, I currently play tennis and Vir plays golf— both at a competitive level.”

They are also potentially looking to venture into machine-learning models to improve the accuracy of their predictions.
