BAHRAIN’S landscape, architecture and rich culture enchanted the heart of new resident Suha Chaouachi so much so that she translated her adoration into illustrations of the island’s hotspots and gorgeous gems.
The talented Tunisian multidisciplinary artist is known for creating art inspired by her different explorations in a bid to capture moments in time, and being in Bahrain is no different.
“I am captivated by the island’s vibrant vibes and its welcoming and secure environment,” said the creative director who runs her design studio called Freeks and lives in Amwaj Islands.
“I was inspired to create illustrations of places like Qal’at Al Bahrain, the Bahrain Financial Harbour and Bab Al Bahrain. By capturing their architectural beauty through my art, I aim to become more familiar with these places and express my unique perspective.
“Through my illustrations, I aspire to create a branding presence for the city and leave a lasting impression on its culture. I hope to feature my work in exhibitions here in Bahrain as well and I extend an invitation to other creatives for collaborations. I would love to immerse myself more in Bahrain’s vibrant art scene.”
Suha, who studied Design and Fine Arts at l’école des beaux arts de Tunis and primarily uses digital drawing and Illustrator for her works, started her creative career in communication agencies. After some time, she let her artistic abilities evolve and got her own studio instead.
“Art has always been a natural outlet for my vivid imagination and boundless energy,” she told GulfWeekly. “I enjoy exploring diverse areas such as illustrations, art installations and music.”
She had staged an exhibition in Tunisia in 2018 called Bandage of the Heart and in 2019, in Rwanda, she won a pattern design competition.
“My artistic style is a colourful and ever-changing journey, blending dreams with reality and I find joy in discovering new techniques and ideas,” she added.
Aside from her Favourite Places Posters, she is creating a collection of colourful handmade clay earrings, tailored to people’s unique styles.
“It is crafted with love and each pair tells its own vibrant story that resonates with your individuality,” she said.
“It features an explosion of hues and patterns that celebrate the beauty of self-expression, and making sure they are not only visually striking but also lightweight and comfortable to wear throughout the day.
“I am also working on an online concept store that promises to be avant-garde, colourful and full of fun.”
