A GROUP of creatives has put their Bahraini-inspired art on display at Art Attack Krew’s (ATK) exhibition, aiming to shine a spotlight on the country’s rich traditions and pearling heritage, write Julia Cassano and Mai Al-Khatib Camille.

The exhibition titled Pearl, being held at Creative Cube, Amwaj Lagoon, was inaugurated by ATK’s new leaders Mariam Mansoor and Fatima Alnaser.

Participants have used their special artistic interpretations to create work that symbolises the Bahraini pearl and the essence of Bahraini National Day.

Russian art teacher and illustrator Alexandra Novik-Khamis, for example, found inspiration from the intriguing blend of cultures and landscapes during her time in the kingdom.

“The vibrant colours and patterns found in traditional Bahraini architecture, along with the dynamic energy of the bustling markets and serene desert beauty, have left a lasting imprint on my artistic vision,” the 36-year-old Bahrain resident, who has painted more than 500 pieces of art, told Gulf Weekly.

Developing her artistic skills from a young age, Alexandra attended Smolensk Arts School in Russia at the age of 10, and later joined the Department of Fine Arts and Graphics of Smolensk State University at 16.

“Bahraini pearls combined with their iridescent lust and timeless elegance have been an enduring muse for my art,” Alexandra said, adding that she enjoys its connection to the rich maritime history of Bahrain and the stories of the sea.

“Just as each pearl is unique, my art aims to reflect the individuality of Bahrain’s precious treasures, as well as to celebrate the country’s enchanting legacy.

“As we marked another National Day, I wanted to highlight the country’s beauty and unity of its people, as well as create art that reflects Bahrain’s vibrant spirit.”

Pakistani artist Syeda Hussain, 29, who works as an International English Language Testing System teacher and entrepreneur used a variety of mediums – mostly acrylics and mixed media - to create her art.

“The exhibition opening was an exciting experience and an opportunity for ATK members to meet new talented artists,” Syeda said.

She used pearls in her artwork titled Selected Muslims to represent Muslims who decide perform Umrah.

“I have had a passion for art ever since I was little, and I enjoyed creating my piece on the theme of Bahraini pearls,” she said.

Bahraini artist and ATK leader Fatima Alnaser, who is currently studying 3D art for films, was also inspired by the beauty of authentic pearls and Bahraini women’s powerful energy.

“I am proud how my artwork and the exhibition turned out,” the Seef-based artist, who describes herself as an impressionist and a fine art artist, said.

“I feel inspired and now want to get back to my passion of creating larger paintings.”

Among the ATK artists showcasing their work at the exhibition are: Mariam Almansoor, Fatima Baher, Waseem Aljunaid, Isa Mansoor, Sehrish Sohail, Hakeema Alwejdani, Shekha Mohamed Khalifa, Subh Muter Almalod, Mariam Abdulaziz, Afaf Alsafaar, Fares Alrowaiei, Niju Joy Subbalakshmi, Fatima Alnser, Syeda Hussain and Alexandra Novik-Khamis.

The expo will be held until December 30, from 6pm to 9pm.
