Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and former US Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey is set to release her new book The House of Being on Tuesday, April 9.

The book, published by Yale University Press as part of their Why I Write series, delves into the formative experiences that shaped her voice as a poet.

The House of Being is a collection of essays that explore the geographies, both physical and metaphorical, that inform Natasha’s work.

The book will delve into her childhood as well as the birth of her love for writing about race, place, and creativity.

The book’s title can be interpreted as both the physical dwelling that housed Trethewey’s formative years and the metaphorical space where her identity and voice as a writer began to take shape, underpinned by themes that resonate throughout her poetry.

The House of Being is a meditation on the power of place, family, and storytelling, as Natasha, known for her poignant lyricism and unflinching exploration of race and history, will shed light on the wellspring of her creative process.
