Award-winning actor Benedict Cumberbatch is pulling the strings in Netflix’s upcoming thriller Eric, set to premiere on May 30.

Taking place in 1980s New York, the six-episode mini-series follows the story of Vincent, a puppeteer and creator of Good Day Sunshine, a children’s TV show, whose nine-year-old son Edgar disappears.

Desperate Vincent finds solace in his son’s old drawings of a blue monster puppet named Eric. Soon enough, his coping mechanism turns destructive as he believes that bringing his son’s puppet to television will reunite them.

“This is a story about people finding their home,” Benedict explained.

“Whether it’s a child, a homeless person, a Black cop, a wife in an unhappy marriage, or even Eric on the show, it’s all about finding a place.”

The series was created by BAFTA and Emmy Award winner Abi Morgan and directed by Lucy Forbes, whose previous works include Netflix hit This Is Going To Hurt.

Joining Benedict on screen are a bevy of actors including Ivan Morris Howe as Edgar, Gaby Hoffmann as Cassie Anderson, McKinley Belcher III as Michael Ledroit, Roberta Colindrez, Jeff Hephner, Wade Allain-Marcus as Ali Gator and Mark Gillis as William Elliot.
