ANIMATED comedy film 10 Lives is out now in theatres.
Starring stand-up comedian Mo Gillian, the film plays with the cultural myth of cats having multiple lives, as it follows the story of Beckett, a selfish housecat rescued and loved by Rose (Simone Ashley), who uses up all his nine lives.
After Beckett loses his final life, he begs gatekeeper Grace, who’s responsible for the afterlife of animals, to return to his former life, and he has his wish granted.
However, he returns with a new set of different lives in different forms: badger, rat, cockroach, parrot, fish, dog and horse.
In an interview with the cast, director and screenwriter Chris Jenkins explained that the film’s concept came from the idea of ‘loving our pets and wondering what their inner lives are’.
Simone added that she believes the film showcases Beckett learning to appreciate life and his human companion.
“We see Beckett on the journey of, maybe, learning to be a bit more generous and present and grateful for the life that he has and opening his heart up to Rose and to the concept of love,” she added.
