The region’s most popular one-make racing series is getting all geared up to support motorsport’s top flight at the 2016 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.
A leading touring car championship has been added to the support race programme of the 2016 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.
While a wide range of major concerts will be staged over the race weekend (see Page 1 & Leisure Guide on P9), there are also many alternative off-track activities on offer too at Bahrain International Circuit to keep families entertained when events on the circuit are quiet.
Formula One’s existing safety measures saved Fernando Alonso’s life in an horrific crash at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix but his escape has added a twist to the debate about proposed improvements to cockpit protection.
Qualifying will remain unaltered for the forthcoming Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, with a further review of the elimination system to follow that race.

Shanghai International Circuit. 56 laps of 5.451km. Total distance 305.256km. 2015 winner: Hamilton. Race start 0600 GMT (1400 local). Built on a vast, almost overwhelming scale in the shape of the Chinese character ‘shang’. Has hosted race since 2004.
