Photographer Andrea Enaux's mission to follow the path of oil through the sands of Bahrain to the refinery process proved more than just a pipedream.

She kept on track and captured a compilation of images which have proved so fascinating they have turned into an artistic composition.

Her work entitled 'Pipelines' features 40 images displaying the network of oil pipes running along from Wali Al Ahed Highway all the way across the kingdom to Sitra.

She said: "I was totally intrigued by the pipelines from the very first time I spotted them on the highway. I wondered where they came from and where they were going to.

"I felt inspired to follow their tracks across the island, along roads, through villages and through people's lives. It proved to be a fascinating journey of discovery."

She followed the pipes from Janabiya, along the path known locally as 'Pipeline Road' - where they emerge from the sea from Saudi Arabia on their way to Sitra.

She said: "I chose the pipelines because they tell a story from the beginning to the end."

The images also hold historic relevance. The kingdom was the first to discover oil in commercial quantities in the Gulf region and, although today its production is minimal compared to its neighbours, it refines a large quantity of Saudi oil.

Mother-of-three Andrea, who has been living on the island for five years, recently displayed her artwork in the recent 'Same, Same but Different' exhibition at the Al Riwaq Art Space in Adliya. The exhibition followed a photo workshop conducted by Bahrain-based artist Camille Zakharia.

Andrea first developed an interest in photography as a teenager and her passion quickly led to a job as a press photographer in Switzerland.

However, she decided to put her photographic career on the backburner to concentrate on family life, although her craving to express her artistic flair has now led to portrait and advertising commissions.
