I’m sure all parents out there will agree with me when I say: kids, they grow up fast. Perhaps too fast. So fast that it makes your head spin. Yet, in times such as these it seems children are exposed to so much so fast that the growing process is hyper-accelerated.
This is a fact I bring to light because of an event I recently read about and saw on the news. In Sonora Elementary School, California, three third graders; two aged eight and one aged nine, had to be disciplined after being caught in a school bathroom smoking. Sorry, not just smoking; smoking an illegal substance. A substance I’m sure most of us teenagers did not know even existed when we were eight.
These children are far too young to face criminal charges and obviously still investigations regarding their home lives must take place.
Yet, I hope that this is simply an anomaly. But if it is not, one must consider in what direction the youth of today is going.
